Project Overview

BP – Bulwer Island Brisbane

Our client came to us with a challenge to suspend a 26m span scaffold across two timber headstocks to provide access for blast and paint repairs of an active fuel line in the Brisbane river.

Due to the age and condition of the pipe, no connections to the pipe were possible, so all loads needed to be transferred back into the headstocks which had its own structural issues.

Due to the location and complexity of the project, Benchmark designed and engineered a crane-able scaffolding solution which was built on land and lifted onto a barge to be transported to the work area. Once the barge was in position and mooring lines installed, the crane simply lifted the scaffolding onto the headstocks in one complete piece. This not only increased efficiency on the installation process but eliminated all working at height issues and falling objects.

According to Layher, this is the single largest span ever completed in Australia using the industry leading FW system. This system was chosen because of its light weight and extreme strength which provided our client with a 5kPa load rating in the center of the span.
