Project Overview

Queensland Rail – Herbert River Rail Bridge

The Herbert River Rail Bridge is an active single-track bridge which is a critical link to the transport route across Queensland. The total project included structural upgrades to the underside of the track, concrete remediation works to the piles and headstocks as well as some sub surfaces repair works below water level.

As the track is live and multiple trains cross the bridge every day, the scaffolding system was designed to accommodate all safety precautions whilst ensuring no delays to the transport route.

The scaffolding spans between the headstocks were installed using the proven Benchmark cantilevered methodology which ensures the scaffolders are always behind the safety of handrails and completed working platforms.

The Benchmark Design and Engineering Team in partnership with Queensland Rail designed and implemented a custom designed trolley that could be used to transport materials on top of the rail track to reduce manual handling and increase installation schedules. This method increased the efficiencies by 40% resulting in a better outcome for all stakeholders.
